AND we’re still in Spring! And spring is all about new growth, movement and learning. So if we’re on this track we need to take a look at learning styles and how we account for different learning styles in the work we do. Therapy can often lean towards a very auditory process approach and we have to remember that most are more oriented to learning styles that are not auditory, or at least styles that can be combined with auditory.
SO! Get ready to get creative into this supervision session. First things first, you’re going to have to put your perfectionism aside. Just throw it right out the door for this session. Be prepared to get messy because we going to trial out different learning styles together, so you can come away with some tools for your toolbelt to use with clients - but we’ve got to start somewhere. :).
What I want to you do to prepare for this session, is write down at least 5 concepts that you come back to over and over again with your clients. This could be believe orientations, therapeutic approaches, values. Here are some examples of concepts that you’ve probably heard incessantly from me:
We need to understand the difference between what is conditioned and what is authentic to us
As humans we should constantly be expanding and contracting
Humans need to seek teachers outside of solely humans - seek teachers in the land, the plants, the seasons, etc.
As clinicians we need to lead with our authenticity, not with our tools
If we don’t have a center point that keeps us grounded, we can’t build a strong foundation
We need to honor who we’ve been and who we are in order to take steps into new spaces of becoming
Now think about what are some of the concepts you keep returning to. Write those down and bring them with!!!
I look forward to seeing you all there!
