Our 3rd Thursday group is meeting November 17th at 6am

Our 3rd Thursday (2nd) group is meeting November 17th at 10am

Our 2nd Friday group is meeting November 11th at 9:30am

This month we have a guest speaker, Jaelyn Lindsey, MSW (she/her, they/theirs) who is one of our clinical group members and actively in the process of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. She is a staunch advocate for social justice around LGBTQIA+ challenges and the societal need for awareness, inclusion and equity for our many intersectional identities. In the work she has done, she has observed continual social justice gaps, LGBTQIA+ people face, but also the simple awareness around exclusive languaging, lack of inclusivity in our policies/procedures, and the basic need for people to be seen and appropriately supported by our practices. Jaelyn will be with each group for this months clinical supervision to provide us with a shared base and offer some beginnings for conversation.

THANK YOU JAELYN!

Per Jaelyn to prep for this months supervision:

As social workers, we are in a unique position to change and challenge systems where we see biases. As the systems we work in have continued to progress, we still have a long way to go when it comes to equity and inclusion for our LGBTQIA* clients. From having the terminology to implementing inclusive acts in our everyday roles. It is vital to look not only at the biases we have as social workers, but where our systems and history create barriers for LGBTQIA* clients. This training will review historical prevalence, terminology, statistics, a deeper understanding of gender, sex, and orientation and how they coexist, and system reviews for equity and inclusion. Here are some things to ponder beforehand…

1. Where is your comfort and knowledge level of working with LGBTQIA* clients?

2. Where are the barriers for LGBTQIA* clients in the system you work in?

What you will need to bring:

  • Questions, cases, workplace situations, ethical dilemmas that center around challenges that impact our LGBTQIA+ community.

  • You!

I look forward to seeing you all there!
